THE VINEYARD:
There is 14.5 planted acres and the grape varietals include Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier.
Climate:
The Oak Knoll District’s cool climate naturally leads to diversity, producing exceptional fruit that is coveted for its bright character and elegant flavor. With a warm spring and cool summer, the growing season here can span more than 8 months and run into October, giving grapes ample time to ripen fully and develop complexity, while not losing critical acidity.
Soil:
The diverse soils of the Oak Knoll District result from a combination of ancient marine sediments and more recent rocky alluvial fans. Millions of years ago, this area was an ocean and the accumulation of sediments over time created a deep base of fertile loam. Most soils are porous and drain well. This forces the vineyard roots to extend deep into the ground in search of water. While this stresses the vine, it also leads to long term health.
Topography:
Geologic uplifts and volcanic activity that formed the surrounding hills has impacted the Oak Knoll District’s geology. Over the years, soil and debris have eroded from these adjacent hills, forming alluvial fans in this region.
